Tracking Santa’s Progress 

In defense of the United States, NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, is always on the job tracking anything and everything that flies in and around North America. As they report, “NORAD has been tracking Santa since 1955 when a young child accidently dialed the unlisted phone number of the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) [NORAD’s predecessor] Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, believing she was calling Santa Claus after seeing a promotion in a local newspaper.”

What started as a wrong number has become a cherished tradition. Each year, about 15 million visitors from more than 200 countries and territories around the world track Santa with NORAD’s help.
